A replacement machine might not be installed for another 14 weeks, the Health and Social Services director of corporate services has said.

The fluoroscopy X-ray machine – used to produce moving images of various parts of the human body on a screen – broke in August and since then patients have been sent to either Southampton or Portsmouth.

The spend is divided into £10,000 from Social Security, who pay for the travel, and £13,500 from HSSD which pays for the X-ray, Richard Evans said.

He added that until a replacement for the 13 year old machine was installed – a deal is expected to be signed shortly – patients would continue to be sent to the UK.
