Many people woke to find that the windscreen-wiper arms on their vehicles had been bent or broken off.

One of them, plasterer Craig Bougourd, 28, said people were very angry.

Mr Bougourd, wife Katy and their children have lived on the estate for about five years.

He was about to get in his car to go to work at 7.30am on Saturday when a neighbour told him that the windscreen-wipers on their car had been bent.

'Then when I looked, mine had been bent too and one was snapped,' he said. 'It's a good job my neighbour told me as I could have had a scratched windscreen as well if I'd turned them on.'

Mr Bougourd said he had saved hard to buy his 2010 Mazda 3mps five months ago. The vandals had also scratched the paintwork.

'I very much doubt that it would be anyone from around here who did it as they are all hard-working genuine people and there isn't any trouble,' he said.

'When people are caught doing this sort of thing I think very heavy sentences should be put in place.'
