Head of law enforcement Patrick Rice was speaking following the publishing of its annual report for 2013.

In total, 1,679 crimes were reported last year.

Of those 765 were detected (where Guernsey police has identified those responsible), 806 were outstanding and in 108 cases no crime was detected.

Mr Rice, pictured, was pleased with the overall 13% reduction in crime on the previous year, in which there were 1,928 crimes reported.

'There may be some crimes where people have taken a view that it's not worth bothering the police with – that's not what we want, we want people to report crime to us – but when you look right across the board, and the major categories of crime, I am able to legitimately say there has been a reduction in crime generally,' he said.
