The reality of scooping the record-breaking jackpot of £1,220,600 in the Channel Islands Christmas Lottery had still not sunk in for the syndicate of 19 from Acorn House yesterday.

But it did not stop the emotional group, including chefs, catering assistants, cleaners and a caretaker, from celebrating with some Buck's fizz.

The win has meant the world to single mum-of-two Kirsty Page, who started working at the pre-preparatory school as a catering assistant in March.

'At first when people were calling me saying we had won I thought it was a joke,' said the 32-year-old. 'But when I realised we had won I just broke down and couldn't sleep at all that night.'

Miss Page will use her win to pay off her Christmas loan as well as for things in the future for her children. 'It is life-changing money and even now I can't quite believe it.'
