HSSD's broken X-ray sees delays to rugby players' recovery

SPORTS players are facing delays in becoming fully rehabilitated following injuries because the hospital's fluoroscopy machine is out of order, the director of rugby has said.

Jordan Reynolds said since the machine broken down – and the subsequent delay in obtaining scans – nearly 30% of his players had sustained injuries.

In some cases a 12-week delay in getting the scan meant players were unable to be properly diagnosed, and therefore not go through the correct rehabilitation process, prolonging the injury.

'One of them had an ankle injury and now has to get a scan off-island, and we still have not got a date. We are told sometime in February.

'He would be playing right now if the machine had been fixed.'

Health and Social Services director of corporate services Richard Evans apologised for the delays and said he would be looking into what had happened.
