Long-term paid parking start delayed to autumn next year

PAID parking for long-term spaces has been put back to next autumn.

The Environment Department had originally said that the scheme would not be introduced before April next year following States approval in May of the Integrated Transport Strategy.

Environment minister Yvonne Burford, pictured, said the department was now in a position where it could be more specific and the delay was for a good reason.

'This is to allow time for the improved and expanded residents' parking scheme to be in place first,' she said.

'The report on residents' parking, as well as revisions in response to significant public interest to the width and emissions duty legislation, have been given priority in the limited legal drafting time available to the department ahead of paid long-stay parking.

'This timetable will also allow for further improvements to the bus service, in addition to those introduced since May, to be rolled out before any parking charges come into effect.'
