Bring banks busy and much tidier than previous years

RECYCLERS were making the most of the bring banks yesterday as the festive season had left them big volumes of packaging, wrapping and glass.

Many were impressed with the cleanliness of the main sites on Boxing Day, which in previous years were overflowing with items.

Mayside Recycling, which collects paper, cardboard and mixed plastic, has added bins at various sites.

Its team were also out yesterday and will be again today to empty the bins and help to prevent any overspill.

Transport manager Steve McKane was left with lots of cans and bottles following a party on Christmas Day.

As glass is not included in the kerbside collection scheme outside of a trial in St Peter Port, he decided to get rid of all his recycling at the same time at the Mont Cuet bring bank site.

'We have got another party tonight, so rather than waiting for the next kerbside night I wanted to get rid of it all today,' the 54-year-old said.

'I was quite surprised at how tidy it was here today because I came late on Christmas Eve and the bins were quite full.

'So they must have emptied them which is very good.'
