Hospitality and tourism sub group chairman Luke Wheadon, pictured, was speaking after tourism body VisitBritain predicted overseas visitor spending in the UK would top £22bn for the first time in 2015.

'At the end of 2014 we will have seen a 2% growth in the Guernsey tourist market.

'I don't think I can remember the last time we even spoke about growth,' he said.

'It's good to hear positive news coming out of the UK. Clearly, that will have a positive effect on us. To see growth is a very important step for us and a lot of hard work has gone in.'
