A major international slump in fuel prices and some seasonal goodwill had already seen two petrol stations drop to as low as 98.9p a litre for unleaded petrol over the Christmas period and several more stations are set to join the under-£1 club from next week.

Both Hill Engineering and Barras Convenience Store in the Vale dropped their unleaded prices to 98.9p over Christmas and will be providing a special offer this weekend at both stations of under £1 a litre for unleaded.

The news comes as the Channel Islands Co-operative Society also announced it was set to drop its unleaded price to 99.9p at all its Guernsey petrol stations from next week.

Rhys Hill, director of Hill Engineering, pictured, said that wholesale petrol prices had fallen to the cheapest ever mark for them since they had been in business.
