Deputy to push for 'radical rethink' of States pensions

A MOVE to force a 'radical rethink' of the public sector pensions deal is on the cards if the matter is brought to the States chamber, a deputy has declared.

John Gollop said he was looking at drawing up an amendment should the Policy Council submit a States report containing the original 2013 proposals.

Other deputies warned that the States ending negotiations with unions would only invite conflict and for the repercussions of forcing change to be fully considered.

Deputy Gollop said that if a States report arrived, he was likely to challenge it.

'It would ask for a radical rethink, along with the creation of a working party,' he said.

'For example, they could look at allowing civil servants to invest in other private schemes rather than a one-size-fits-all.

'Another possibility could be a complete end to the defined contribution scheme for everybody, but a significant increase in wages and salaries to compensate.'
