'Full' hospital sees operations postponed

EIGHT operations scheduled to take place tomorrow have been postponed because the hospital is 'full'.

It is not yet known exactly what procedures that have been affected, but the number is thought to include orthopaedic and general surgery.

Health and Social Services said there were no beds available for those due to have surgery because of the number of sick people currently being treated.

Pressure on beds was always greater in the winter, it said, and 'bed-blocking' - referred to by the profession as delayed transfer of care - was among the matters playing a part.
