And now those behind the £1.6m. project are launching one last fundraising push to secure the rest of the funds they needed.

Contractor, Rihoy & Son, is halfway through the work and it is hoped the new building will be wind- and water-tight by the end of February.

If all continues to go to schedule, the build will be completed in July, ready for opening in September.

Colin Guilbert, of the Cobo Community Centre Committee, said that so far, the project team were heading towards the £900,000 mark in terms of fundraising. A further £700,000 is needed.

'We're almost halfway through the project,' he said. 'The building is all on schedule and we're delighted with the work Rihoy and Son has done.

'We now need to push on with the funds.'
