A PUNK rock-themed dance and routine to Frozen's 'Let It Go' were just a few of the upbeat pieces that kicked off this year's Festival of Dance.

Dancers took to the Beau Sejour theatre stage yesterday afternoon as the 41st festival got under way.

Principal of The Academy of Dance and Theatre Arts, Rhianna King, said even though the rehearsal hours had been long, 'it would all be worth it'.

'We've got about 120 children competing over the festival, which is brilliant. Every dance is special and the week is a great opportunity for the children – the chance to dance on a big stage doesn't come along often.'

  • Adult tickets are £5.50, children, under 16 years, £3. No concessions for OAPs. Wheelchair bookings to be made through Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.
