Prison monitoring panel seeks volunteers

MORE volunteers are being called for by an independent monitoring panel that undertakes checks of Guernsey Prison.

The body, which carries out monthly unannounced visits, is tasked with speaking to Les Nicolles staff, inmates, inspecting the building and reporting back. Members can access every part of the premises at any time, day or night.

Chairwoman Wendy Meade, pictured, who has been involved for seven years, would like to see wanted to encourage more people get involved.

Skills needed included compassion, determination, a sense of justice and being a good communicator, she added.
