Light snow 'possible' next week as temperatures start to fall

SNOW could fall during the early part of next week but it is too early to give a definitive forecast, a weather expert has said.

Speculation has been growing over whether the island is in for a dusting and the Jersey Met Office has now issued a snow flurry alert as temperatures are expected to fall during the weekend.

Experienced meteorologist and Guernsey Press Weather Fox columnist Robert Plummer, pictured, has been regularly checking the weather models which are released every six hours.

The strongest risk of seeing snow was between Sunday (1 and 4 Feb) and Wednesday, in particular Tuesday morning, he said.

'The latest few models are telling the same story, and I feel a little more confident.

'On Tuesday, a low pressure system will go to the south of us which is less usual.'

He said this would bring east/north easterly winds – the ideal scenario for snow.

'It depends how quick it passes by the morning,' he said.

Initial indications suggested it would take longer to pass, meaning there was a chance it could snow all day. However, more recent signs suggested it would pass quickly with a small impact.
