HSSD's action plan is 'gaining traction with turning care around'

TANGIBLE progress has been made in strengthening governance processes since October, Health and Social Services has said.

After the department released an 88-point action plan to shore up and restore faith in the island's maternity services, HSSD said it was gaining traction with turning care around.

Three months ago, revalidation of Guernsey's doctors and consultants was deferred for six months by the General Medical Council in response to the damning midwifery findings and a department spokeswoman said it was working hard to deliver changes.

'Since the end of October, all sections of the medical community in Guernsey have worked together to strengthen governance processes.

'We have made tangible progress in a number of key areas including a single complaints process, a single process for escalating and investigating concerns and improved appraisal processes as overseen by our responsible officer, Dr Nick Lyons.'
