WORK at the Longue Rue House is entering the final stage, the Guernsey Housing Association chief executive has said.

Steve Williams was speaking after the original care home's demolition began.

It represented the beginning of the end for the project, he said, and the location of the building work should mean less disruption for those living near the site.

'We can now finish the first phase and begin the second, as there was a slight overlap of the old building.

'Phase one was the building of 57 flats and phase two is the next 27 flats.

'That will be linked to the first phase and should be open by April 2016.
