Chief executive Steve Williams was speaking in support of Environment's proposed requirement in its new draft Island Development Plan for developments of five or more units to contain between 20% and 30% of affordable properties.

'It's a way of providing additional affordable housing across the island without a large impact on the taxpayer,' he said.

Housing minister Dave Jones said the requirement was something the department had been asking for for a long time.
