Golf clubs to be offered new deal

A NEW deal is about to be offered to the golf clubs using L'Ancresse Common in a bid to end the long-running and at times bitter dispute over rental charges.

The Vale Commons Council is sending a letter to the two clubs in a bid to relaunch the stalled negotiation ahead of the lease expiring at the end of 2016.

Last year, the clubs were at loggerheads with the council over its initial proposed new charges, which would have seen the annual cost for the two clubs rise from just £100 a year combined to about £90,000.

Jurat Mike Tanguy, who heads a working party which has been at the centre of the negotiations, told last night's annual general meeting of the Vale Commons Council that a new set of proposals had been drawn up to try to bring some agreement between the parties.

'These alternative proposals try to recognise some of the concern that have been reported to us and voiced by representatives of the clubs,' he said.

Jurat Tanguy would not tell the meeting the precise details of the deal, stating it would be inappropriate to do so before the clubs had seen sight of the offer.
