'Neglected Bridge left me covered in bruises'

A 'DECADE of neglect' to the Bridge's cracked, deteriorating and dangerous footpaths have been condemned by shoppers and retailers, who have suffered serious falls and injuries.

The pedestrian area has been dubbed Guernsey's forgotten and neglected shopping parade, with its damaged and loose slabs called an 'accident waiting to happen' by one retailer who broke her nose.

Sheila Olliver, the manageress of Shoestring, fell outside the Island Shopper, leaving her face covered in bruises.

News of this latest injury has led other shoppers and shop workers to warn of repeated accidents on the Bridge, with some pensioners left 'black and blue'.

They argue that long-awaited priority for the Bridge's footpaths should be boosted by the draft Island Development Plan classing the area as a 'main centre' that provides 'core focus' for development.

Mrs Olliver, pictured, believed she fell because there was a gap between the pavement and the road.
