Islanders invited to visit 'Grammar' homes

FORMER pupils of the Boys' Grammar School will have a chance to see how the building has been transformed before residents move in at the end of the month.

Over the last 28 months the Brock Road site has been overhauled to create 40 new homes for the Guernsey Housing Association.

Residents have already moved into 27 of the partial ownership and rented houses and the finishing touches are being put to the old school building and three bungalows on the west of the site.

GHA development manager Phil Roussel, pictured, who is a former Boys' Grammar student, said he was pleased to see his old classrooms given a new lease of life.

'It is a bit strange, but it's really good to see,' he said.

'I'm so pleased we kept the old building.'

He thought a lot of people – including former students – would want to look around on the open day.

The old school now contains 10 homes – three partial ownership and seven rental – with a mix of one, two and three beds.

'It had to be gutted back to the walls,' Mr Roussel said. 'We had to build a timber box frame inside the walls and then insulate it.'

Islanders can look around between 10am and 1pm on Saturday 21 March. Parking on site is limited.
