Sam sees benefits of independence for disabled people brought by P1 bus service

ISLANDERS with a disability and their families were given the chance to try out the access features on the bus used on the P1 service and discuss the bus service with representatives from CT Plus last night.

The opportunity came before an open meeting of the Guernsey Disability Alliance at St Pierre Park Hotel.

The P1 service was launched last year, with a smaller bus running on country routes, rather than into Town.

Sam Le Huray, 43, pictured, who has used a wheelchair all her life, said she found it 'quite emotional' being able to learn more about the P1 bus and see everyone so positive.

'This service has been a long time coming and I have to hold back tears when I think about how much it is going to help those with disabilities on the island. What it comes down to is independence and freedom for everybody.'
