Owners said the limited pedestrian access had seen a drop in footfall through their doors.

Pedestrians now have access from the Guernsey Information Centre end towards the Ship and Crown. However, it was limited on Wednesday (4 March), which was the worst day so far, businesses said. They called for more improvements to be made.

Work in the current location will be completed by the end of Saturday (7 March), and the contractors will then move across to the seaward side of North Esplanade/The Quay from Sunday (8th March) onwards.

Wednesday was particularly bad for Fat Face. Supervisor Emily Huxster had to ask a workman to move a barrier which was blocking her from walking along the pavement outside the shop.

Between 10am and around 3-4pm that day it saw just two customers.

'It has been awful, we have been really affected,' Miss Huxster said.

'We have a sale and next week hope it will pick up. When People who don't work here they don't realise,' she said.
