'Appalling' vandalism 'not down to skate park users'

'APPALLING' vandalism at Cambridge Park should not be blamed on skateboarders and other users of the skate park, it has been said.

Guernsey Xtreme Sports Association chairman and Culture and Leisure minister Mike O'Hara said the skate park had also been targeted by vandals, who had dumped bottles and rubbish over the facility.

But he said direct links between the state-of-the-art skate park and recent vandalism were unfair and the committee would be talking to its members to make them aware and ask them if they knew who could be responsible.

'We have also had bottles strewn all over the place, but it does not mean to say our members did it,' he said.

'We are appalled that this kind of vandalism is taking place in the park and are totally against it.

'To say it is skate park members is wrong and unfair.'

Police are investigating the vandalism at the Les Cotils side of the park.

A tree was uprooted, two bins were overturned, with rubbish strewn across the park, and dog excrement scattered along a pathway.
