Cruise passengers 'happy with changes'

POSITIVE feedback to new cruise tender docking arrangements has been received from the first visiting operator of the season and its passengers, Guernsey's director of tourism and marketing has said.

Mike Hopkins said the new arrangements, which involve tenders docking at the Albert Pier instead of the harbour's inter-island quay, would allow the island to continue to welcome an ever-increasing number of cruise passengers, which the States estimates contributes £4.8m. to the economy.

'From what we can see so far there's been nobody saying we're not coming back here because of it. Everyone is still happy to come here.'

The new arrangement received an initial test earlier this month when 500 passengers from the Saga Saphire were dropped off at the Albert Pier.

'Most passengers liked the fact that they could get to Castle Cornet and to Town more easily,' said Hopkins.

'They also get to see a much more attractive approach into the port.'
