Local carriers give cautious reception to Heathrow offer

HEATHROW'S expansion plans could see an air route between the London hub and Guernsey re-started.

The UK airport has announced that its new £10m. Heathrow Route Development Fund is aiming to work with local airports, councils and chambers of commerce to establish new regional routes, if a new runway was built.

The airport has just seven regional routes, compared with 18 in 1990.

Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said the airport wanted to support Guernsey Airport's growth.

But current local carriers were cautious about the idea.

Flybe said the route did not interest the company currently, while an Aurigny spokesman said the airline's main priority was to protect the island's lifeline Gatwick route.
