Sure accounts 'do not not give full picture'

SURE'S mobile accounts do not give the full picture of how much profit the company is making, the Commerce and Employment minister has said.

Deputy Kevin Stewart, pictured, has shrugged off the unprecedented move by the telecoms company, which opened up its books to show it made just under £400,000 profit from its mobile operations in 2013.

It comes as part of the dispute which continues over the department's plans to introduce a 2% spectrum charge on relevant turnover.

This has been described by Sure as an 'unjustifiable tax' that inevitably would be passed on to customers.

'What they've published is just smoke and mirrors, because really there are two sets of accounts,' said Deputy Stewart.

'There's the accounts from the regulated side of the business – we only tax Sure on the side that they are regulated on – and then there is the non-regulated side which is income from things like handsets.
