States votes no to GST

GUERNSEY will not introduce a GST after deputies rejected a key plank of the tax, pensions and benefits review this afternoon.

They voted by 28 to 18 in favour of an amendment by Deputy Richard Conder which rules out the sales tax.

Treasury and Social Security wanted further investigations into GST, which the strategy suggested could raise some £50m. at 5%.
