Alderney in shock after GP surgery raid

SHELL-SHOCK, bewilderment and rumours swept through Alderney yesterday after concerns over four deaths sparked a police raid on a doctor's surgery and saw GP Dr Rory Lyons suspended from practice.

The General Medical Council's website confirmed yesterday that Dr Lyons is under interim suspension from practising anywhere in the UK, as from Thursday – the same day 10 Guernsey police officers executed a search warrant at Eagle Medical Practice, which he runs, and a residential address.

The investigation began after concern was raised with Health and Social Services about the death of a patient who had been under the care of the practice. Guernsey Police were notified after an internal investigation by HSSD identified three other deaths.

Alderney's community has been left shocked and divided with many of Dr Lyons' patients rallying in support of their GP.
