Public sector employees plan mass protest march

A MASS protest of potentially thousands of public sector workers will march across Town in a last-ditch bid to stop proposals to force pension reforms.

The unprecedented march in St Peter Port, which is set to include the major unions involved in the pensions dispute, is due to be held on the Saturday before the States meets to decide whether to take the dispute to the Royal Court, in a move unions have warned could spark years of legal battles and 'eye-watering' bills.

Unite the Union regional officer Bob Lanning said that potentially around 3,000 States employees could take to the streets for the march, which could also attract members of the public angered by the recent decision to increase the pension age to 70 by 2049.
