Alderney seeks summer Citywing flights to Jersey

THE States of Alderney is to invite Citywing Aviation Services to run a summer air service to Jersey.

The Policy and Finance Committee has asked the Isle-of-Man based Citywing Aviation Services airline to submit a proposal for a seasonal, potentially subsidised, service to run from May to September.

It follows a successful Jersey trial two years ago when the States chartered a Trislander from Aurigny to provide weekend flights to and from Jersey.

Last month Citywing – rebranded from Manx2 in 2013 – submitted a report on how it could operate a States-owned airline to cover Alderney routes with Let 410s.

But the company said it would not take on the routes if it was going to be in competition with Aurigny.

Policy and Finance chairman Neil Harvey said part of the plan's appeal was that it would not conflict with Aurigny or EU rules on subsidies.
