THE States is better equipped now to keep costs under control as a result of the Financial Transformation Programme, Treasury minister Gavin St Pier has said.

It follows the release of a Policy Council report into the five-year efficiency drive which ended in 2014.

The FTP delivered £28.7m. of annually recurring savings, short of the £31m. target.

'The changes made through the delivery of the FTP means that we are now far better equipped to face the longer term challenge of ensuring the ongoing financial sustainability of public services while keeping costs under control,' said Deputy St Pier, pictured.

'Without the FTP, the States would not have been able to move towards a balanced budget and multi-year budgeting.

'It's important to recognise that the FTP is ground breaking for the States in that virtually every service area in every department has made a contribution to the overall achievements of this single programme.'

Around £21m. of the annual savings were delivered during this political term.
