The police, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission plus NatWest, Barclays, HSBC and Lloyds Bank have joined together to produce new leaflets which are being delivered to every home in the island.

The leaflet includes information such as the way some scammers work and what banks would never ask customers to do, as well as providing contact details for services which can help those who think they have been targeted.

It came about after the organisations recognised that despite previous awareness efforts, islanders were still falling victim to scammers and it wanted to find another route to inform the public.

Rosemary Stevens, assistant director in the conduct unit at the GFSC, said the calls can be convincing and it was about raising the awareness as the scams continued to affect people.
