VALE deputies are making a final attempt to broker a deal over the lease of Vale Common.

The Vale Commons Council and the two golf clubs – the L'Ancresse and the Royal Guernsey – have been at loggerheads for months over the future of the rental agreement to have part of the common continue as a golf course.

Attempts to meet have fallen through before, but deputies Matt Fallaize, Dave Jones and Laurie Queripel are now trying to get the parties around the table.

'The purpose of the meeting is to try to reach a common understanding between the two parties,' Deputy Fallaize said.

'That way we can clearly understand what the red lines are in this negotiation. I don't feel they are as apart as you would think from what they are saying.'

Both parties have acknowledged receiving the meeting request and it is hoped – if they agree – they will meet in late May or during June.
