Colin Guilbert, pictured, was speaking at an exclusive open day at the centre, where future tenants, financial supporters and those from St Matthew's Church were invited to look around the new, modern facility.

'We're still on track to finish by the end of July, which is fantastic, and today has been a great opportunity for people to see the progress at the centre,' said Mr Guilbert.

The new centre is built on the site owned by St Matthew's Church where the former Church Hall stood.

A further £600k is needed for the project. Completion is set for late July and the opening ceremonies for 5 and 6 September.

Activities will begin from 7 September.

Donations can be made, payable to Cobo Community Centre, at any HSBC branch using sort code 40-22-25 and account number 44126610.

Cheques and donations can also been sent to financial director Pauline Mahy at Les Palmiers, Grandes Rocques, Castel, GY5 7FR. For more information, call Mrs Mahy on 257885 or Mr Guilbert on 253464.
