Only three deputies voted against the amendment brought by the Policy Council's Deputy Allister Langlois.

He said the States' position had always been that reaching a settlement through negotiation was preferable.

The new proposed mediation period would end on 31 July. Under the amendment, if no agreement was reached by then, the Policy Council will proceed with its plans to try to force public sector pension reforms through the Royal Court.
