The go-ahead from the Treasury and Resources Department means that the project will open for business later this summer, though a venue has yet to be announced.

The Digital Greenhouse will primarily work to accelerate the growth of the digital sector in the island.

It will also provide a co-working space for entrepreneurs, a skills academy and a community digital sector aimed at improving the digital literacy of islanders and to provide a test-bed for the roll-out of e-government services.

Commerce and Employment minister Kevin Stewart, pictured, said: 'This is extremely good news for Guernsey and I am very pleased to see the exciting plans now become reality.

'This investment really shows the faith and confidence that the Guernsey government has in the development of the technological and creative sectors in Guernsey and the necessity to develop digital skills and capabilities across a range of users in the island.'
