St Andrew's celebrates before closing

EMOTIONS ran high at St Andrew's Primary School when past and present pupils and teachers celebrated the life and achievements of a 'school at the heart of its community'.

Memories were shared at an open day, as people young and old looked at photographs, exercise books and memorabilia, some dating back to 1889 when the Victorian building was constructed.

Head teacher Linda Paley had mixed emotions and felt it would take some time for the parish to adapt after the school closes in July.

'It is a sad time for the parish, but a decision has been made and so this is an opportunity for us to really celebrate everything that has been achieved.

'I am proud of what has been achieved and this school has brought out the best in every single individual.

'There is obviously a strong sense of community here and it will take some time to adjust, but I hope the building continues to be a focal point in the community.'
