SEVEN out of 10 students did not find it difficult working with those from other schools under Education's federation of secondary schools, minister Robert Sillars said yesterday.

Latest figures from a survey of students showed 95% thought federated courses were a good idea and 74% would like the opportunity to attend more than one federated course.

Deputy Sillars said the federation was launched in September last year with just a single computer science GCSE run at St Sampson's, but just a year later they would be offering up to 14 federated courses.

The feedback from pupils was announced by the minister as he spoke at the last in a series of lunch seminars from the Institute of Directors, at which he hailed the success of the federation in delivering a new structure for secondary education.

'This is what real innovation and education in the 21st century is about,' he said.
