The Countess was greeted by a crowd of islanders as she arrived at the outdoor Liberation Service at Footes Lane this morning.

The Royal visitor read a message from the Queen, who paid tribute to the island's continued allegiance and loyalty to the Crown.

The Bailiff replied to the message describing the island's profound gratitude.

The Countess, dressed in Green, will later meet islanders who lived through the Occupation, some of whom are now over 100 years of age.

She will then travel to Town where she will unveil a 70th anniversary Liberation Day stone.
