The comments come as a 10-year strategic plan for Guernsey tourism was published yesterday, with proposals on how to increase the number of visitors by 30% to 400,000 within 10 years, generating an extra £32.8m. for the island.

Marketing and tourism director Mike Hopkins, pictured, said one of the strategy's key action plans was to 'evaluate new, sustainable and competitive routes to the islands'.

In addition to addressing the runway length and the introduction of other airlines and jets, considering new connections across the UK and Europe, encouraging competitive fares and discussing ways to maximise the potential with the new Aurigny jet, were all proposed in the long-term plan.
