Leaner States to be proposed

A SUBSTANTIAL reduction in the number of deputies and States departments will be proposed in a policy letter to go before the States in July, the vice-chairman of the States Review Committee has said.

Deputy Matt Fallaize had previously confirmed 'some form of rationalisation' was on the cards.

But while addressing the audience at the Institute of Directors mid-term review breakfast seminar yesterday, he gave more of an indication of what the proposals would contain.

'It is no secret that what will be proposed is a reduction in the number of deputies and the number of departments, quite substantially in fact.'

He said the policy letter – the second stage of proposals to be put forward by the committee – would be submitted this week and published Monday week.

He added that the committee hoped it had found solutions that the States would find acceptable to the States and that they would be supported.
