Ministers quizzed over delaying La Mare rebuild

REBUILDING La Mare de Carteret School is 'putting the cart before the horse', Treasury Minister Gavin St Pier said yesterday.

After a meeting lasting more than two hours at Les Beaucamps School last night, where he and Education Minister Robert Sillars were extensively quizzed over their differing visions for the future of schooling in the island by some 200 people, Deputy St Pier said rebuilding La Mare without discussing the wider context made little sense.

'It is the cart before the horse.

The meeting was held in the wake of suggestions to halve the number of secondary schools to two - and even one - were made.

Treasury yesterday submitted an amendment which linked the long-awaited La Mare rebuild to cutting the number from four to three.
