A 41-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Firearms officers were deployed shortly after 3am to attend the incident.

The victim sustained a 'deep chest wound' which, while serious, was not considered life-threatening said police in a statement.

Officers subsequently searched two St Peter Port properties where they made the arrest.

'This is an ongoing investigation and police resources will remain in the area for some time,' they said.
