Neighbours fear for the future of Vale 'green lung'

AN ISOLATED field in the Vale could become housing, but nearby residents are not letting it go without a fight.

The triangle of land between Braye Road and Les Mares Pellees Road has been used for horses in recent years, but under the draft Island Development Plan it would be included in the main centre boundary of the Bridge.

While the land has not been chosen as a housing target area, it was identified as being a deliverable site for between four and nine houses, with bus services and car parking nearby, as well as access for services and employment.

That has caused a lot of worry for neighbours, who have already seen large developments take place at Coq du Nord and along Les Mares Pellees, as well a large housing target area being identified south of Braye Road in the latest plan.

The field is owned by John Le Messurier Martel, who bought it at auction about 12 years ago.

He said he had no idea that the neighbours were objecting to the site possibly being used for housing.
