After their 10-day journey, the pipes have now been moored in the bay where they will be fitted with concrete collars. The first pipe is due to be sunk towards the end of next month.

'It is very exciting that the outfall pipes have finally arrived after months and months of planning. The whole exercise has gone extremely smoothly and our thanks go to contractors PipeLife and Van Oord for their excellent teamwork,' said Guernsey Water capital delivery manager Mark Walker.

Harbour master Captain Chad Murray said he had been working with the utility and the contractor for months to ensure the operation ran smoothly.
