Last-minute talks on La Mare as review call lost

EDUCATION'S battle for the £60m. redevelopment of La Mare de Carteret Schools moved a small step closer yesterday when a proposal to delay the work until after a full review of secondary education was defeated in the States.

But there is still one amendment due to be heard, from the Treasury Department calling for an investigation of the closure of one of the other secondary schools.

That might change, however, after the Assembly adjourned yesterday to allow talks to take place between Treasury and Education in the hope that a compromise could be reached.
