The Policy Council is investigating Union Civile, as well as other options, to recognise committed relationships legally.

It is hoped that a solution would help deal with rights of protection such as inheritance, taxation, benefits and next of kin issues.

The council's preferred option is Union Civile, which would be available to all couples seeking legal recognition of their status.

Chief Minister Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq said it was important to listen to public opinion on the issue.

The public can take an online survey at www.gov.gg/unioncivile. Copies can be obtained by calling 717100 or emailing union.civile@gov.gg.

The closing date is Monday 13 July.
