High winds stop Liberation docking in Jersey

FERRY passengers bound for Jersey were delayed by more than three hours yesterday after the Condor Liberation was unable to dock due to 'unforeseen' high winds and tides.

It meant passengers were diverted back to Guernsey and put onboard the Condor Rapide, which was able to dock in St Helier at around 6pm.

Passengers due to travel on the Condor Liberation from Jersey to Guernsey were also transferred on the Condor Rapide beforehand and arrived in Guernsey on schedule at 3.45pm.

Those who were due to travel on to Poole were transferred onto the Liberation in Guernsey to continue their journey and were only expected to experience minimal delays, according to Condor Ferries.

Captain Fran Collins, executive director of operations, apologised to all customers affected by the disruption.

'The unseasonal high winds were not forecast to be so strong and, although the weather conditions allowed Rapide to berth safely, the captain decided to take a cautious approach given that we are still gradually lifting the temporary restrictions put in place following the berthing incident in Guernsey.'
