Condor gets backing for signs about staff abuse

CONDOR Liberation's crew should not be in the firing line for problems that are not their fault, ferry passengers said yesterday, as they supported moves to ban people who abuse or threaten staff.

Their comments come after signs warning that such behaviour would not be tolerated were put up in ports, aboard ships and other places where staff were in contact with customers.

The ferry company said a 'series of unpleasant events' had occurred where customers have threatened or been abusive to staff, either verbally or physically.

Those travelling on-board the Liberation yesterday, including Clive Smith, 61, and his wife Jennie, 67, from the Isle of Wight, came out in support of the crew.

'It is terrible that people would abuse or threaten staff and too right they should not be allowed to sail if they do.

'The staff do the best they can in what can be difficult situations but today the boat was very well-staffed and it was really good service.'
